We have opportunities for you in one of the largest nurseries growing ornamental plants in the UK. With sites in Hampshire near Winchester, Romsey and Petersfield. Alternatively, your career could lie at one of our 13 garden centres based throughout the South of England. Student Placements
Hillier has employed students since the 1940s, providing an unrivalled opportunity to gain experience in growing and marketing a wide range of hardy nursery shrubs and trees. We offer Student Placements of between six months to one year, to pre-college, Higher and National Diploma middle year, and overseas students. Placements are based on our Container Nurseries near Romsey or our Tree Nursery near Petersfield and can, on occasion, be split between the two. We are usually able to assist students find accommodation locally, either in a family home nearby - or in one of our student houses. Working a basic 39 hour week, most of the student training and development will come from instruction while doing the job. Applicants should have a keen gardening interest along with a good horticultural knowledge. you must be enthusiastic, self-motivated and enjoy working as part of a busy team. A practical eye and a good sense of display are also an advantage. You must enjoy meeting and dealing with the public, be physically able to lift and move heavy plant material etc and enjoy working outside throughout the year. Applicants should have good plant and horticultural knowledge, (this will be tested at interview) have a keen gardening interest, be self motivated, enjoy working as part of a small busy team as well being able to work on your own initiative.
